While the conflict in Darfur and Sudan is dying down in the mainstream media, things are looking more dire on the ground.
A recent referendum created two separate states within Sudan, and civilians are being targeted in the ensuing conflict over the oil-rich region of Abyei. Now is a critical time to ensure the health and development of the Sudanese nation and people.
This year, all proceeds from the concert will be donated to BRAC Sudan, an organization that provides health and microfinance programs to those in need.
Microfinance empowers women in Sudan by allowing extending the use of financial tools to the poor. In this way, impoverished women, who are often oppressed and treated as second class citizens are offered the opportunity to start a business, increase their income, provide for their family, and solidify a sense of self-worth and responsibility.
